TCJpart87 Funny

SOME LIKE IT HOT:
...and some don't.

Horses can get quite fed up when it's hot.  Today, Saturday, it's 29degrees in my feed room which means in the fields...in the sun...it's much hotter.

Tom & Henry have spent the morning in their stables eating hay, after a brief wander around the land whilst it was cool, napping, having a lie-down...

...and generally doing as little as they can except making a mess.

They don't get bothered by the flies indoors, except for the swallow parents swooshing in and out at the speed of a fighter plane, just above their heads to feed their late last brood of 3 babies.

They are fed-up.  They'd much rather be out munching grass and wandering about but they just can't gather the enthusiasm...

...and I know how they feel!

So, it so happened  I was yard-bound to clear up all the haylage Tom had moved from his stable haybar into the yard...he prefers to be able to look about while he eats...leaving me to clear up.....

....when I was topping up their water buckets which hang over the yard fence,  Henry came out looking dejected and very hot, so I hosed him, and Tom joined in!!

I point the water jet in the air so the water falls on them like rain, it cools them down brilliantly, and what happens next is quite simply hilarious and  very entertaining to.

They wander to the bottom of the yard ramp where the grass has been worn away by hoof traffic leaving a nice baked earth patch for pawing the ground and rolling.

Then they rub their heads on each other, grunting and rolling again. Then they gallop off, running together and having fun.
Try it with your own horse, and have a camera ready!

I get them dripping wet, and they are so happy.
Tom & Henry are so entertaining, you can see relief on their faces, then they roll some more and wander out to eat grass..in the shady spots.

They dance around each other, then fly off.

.
...bucking and squeeling heads low to the ground...

...then the synchronised rolling begins...

...and the playing takes on an athletic theme...I wonder what Tom is thinking as he gazes up at Henry in this photo?

You can clearly see from these images how much fun T&H had after their shower, and John has taken some stunning shots too, I'm sure you'd agree?

Horses are not just for riding, take the time to get to know yours like I have and you'll have so much fun.

take care.
